5 Things I Wish I’d Known As A New Believer

Our church has experienced exponential growth in the last 6 months, and we are incredibly excited about it!  We consider it an honor to share the love of Christ with all who step through our doors.  With such exponential growth, I thought it’d be beneficial to share 5 things I’ve learned in my walk with Christ, and wish I’d known as a new believer.

1. NO ONE knows it all.

I used to be hesitant to speak about my faith because I didn’t have much biblical knowledge.  Even pulling a bible out at church would make me nervous because I wasn’t sure of the order of books, and didn’t want to be obvious about it.

If someone says something that sounds vague and rehearsed, challenge it!  Albert Einstein once said, “If you can’t explain it to a six year old, you don’t understand it yourself.”  As long as you’re doing so in a respectful way, you aren’t hurting anyone.  As a matter of fact, you might just be doing someone a favor by challenging a phrase or statement someone may have used most of their lives and never fully understood.

2.  There is no VIP club.

God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called.  As soon as you say “Yes” to Him, you’re His.  You don’t have to work to get into any higher ranking for Him to love you.  That’s the point of the gospel.  Each of us have a purpose in God’s plan, and if you’re reading this right now, that means He’s not done with you.  Hallelujah!

3. God Is Good.

God wants to help us, not constantly critique us.  Job 36:10 states, “He gets their attention and commands that they turn away from evil.”  Is God trying to get your attention today?  Psalms 119:71, “My suffering was good for me, for it taught me to pay attention to your decrees.”  God Is GOOD, even when things seem to be going awry in your life.  Pay attention and seek Him.  That’s when you start to see His blessings within the storms.

4. There will be struggle.

As soon as you give your life to God – wait, scratch that – as soon as you are born, there is a target on your back.  However, this isn’t something to be afraid of!  This is something to rejoice over, because it means God has great plans for you, which the enemy doesn’t want to see fulfilled, and God’s plan ALWAYS prevails.  Though you face struggle, try looking at it as confirmation that you are on the right path – a path to much greater glory.

5. The Bible eventually makes sense!

Let’s be real here – the Bible can be confusing and down right intimidating at times, am I right?  What I didn’t know when I was trying to crack the holy-code, was that God reveals the meaning in His Word as we go through life, and helps us apply Scripture to the different circumstances we face in life.  It’s good to dive into His Word and learn as much as we can, but it’s of little good until we trust His Spirit to reveal the meaning in our lives and the lives of those around us.

That’s all for today!  I hope you found these 5 points to be helpful!  If so and you enjoyed this message, please like/share, and subscribe for further content!  We would also appreciate any feedback you have to offer in the comment section below.
